Speedwell Nursery School Term 6 Newsletter

Jul 15, 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been such a pleasure getting to know you and your children this year and being part of their learning journey.

We really value your feedback and we would appreciate it if you could complete this short survey to help us be even better next year. This will be available on our website shortly.

As we are moving towards the end of this busy nursery year and starting to plan for the next, we are sharing some important news and updates.

Staffing

At the end of this term we will be saying goodbye to some staff and others will be changing roles or sites.

  • Congratulations to Natalie Williams, the teacher at Little Hayes, for the successful completion of her SENDCO qualification. From September she will be sharing her expertise of working with children with additional needs across the federation taking on the SENDCO role on both sites.
  • We will be welcoming Lisa to Owl Class as a key person at the end of the week. We are excited to get to know her and share her enthusiasm for learning outside in nature.
  • Csengi will be leaving on July 16th to move back home. It has been wonderful having her on our team this year and we will all miss her fun, energy and sense of humour. We wish her the very best for her new adventures.

September 2024 Settling in Plans for Returning Children

We are already looking forward to next year. We are excited to be welcoming new families and staff, settling our returning children and supporting some of our Wrens children in their transition to Owls room.

During the first week in September we will be going on home visits to meet and get to know our new families. We have found that a gradual return to nursery helps all the children to feel settled, happy and ready to learn. All the returning children, including those moving rooms, will have been given a letter outlining their settling plan. Please see your key person or class teacher if you haven’t seen your child’s settling in plan, or have any questions.

Nursery Places for September

We do have a few nursery places available for September 2024. Please tell your family and friends. They can complete the application form on our website, or pop in to arrange a show round and speak to the team.

Visiting Performers

This term we have been lucky to secure funding for visiting practitioners to work with the children. We would love to be able to offer similar opportunities next school year. Your invaluable voluntary contributions of £1 per week would help us to pay for these brilliant experiences for the children.

  • Music with Ellie – Ellie is an early years music specialist from Bristol Beacon. She has been joining us on Thursday mornings for musical exploration across the nursery. We have been learning new songs, playing instruments together and dancing in lots of different ways whilst listening to live music being played on the flute, piano and ukulele.
  • Childrens Kitchen – Claudia has shared her skill and passion for food and growing with us this year. Children and families have had the opportunity to try preparing new foods and recipes. We planted lots of seeds in our allotment and with the watering of all the keen helpers they have grown ready for us to explore and add to snack time.

See Tapestry and our website for photos and more information.
