In Willow Room We Are Learning… (February 2026)

Feb 27, 2026

We Are Learning… To Create and Tell a Story of my own to take part in Shared Reading Experiences and Tales Toolkit Activities Responding to the Features of Stories

We will be using Tales Tool Kit to support our story telling. We will be learning about characters, settings, problems and solutions in our Tales Toolkit story sessions and using the story props in our play.

We Are Learning… To Develop a sense of Our Learning Space

We will continue to explore all areas of nursery to understand where we will find things that we need. We will be finding different resources such as balls, hoops and bean bags to enhance our throwing skills. This will also support our muscles to help our fine motor skills.

We will be using the garden everyday, in all weathers, so please remember to pack a spare change of clothes and bring their wellington boots. We are continuing to become independent in getting our coats and boots on.

We Are Learning… To Demonstrate Listening to Rhymes by joining in with Words, Actions or Voice Sounds

We will be reading  “Oh Dear, Look What I Got!” by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.

Joining in with the rhyming text and guessing what comes next in this hilarious picture book . “I went to the shop to get me a carrot, Oh dear they gave me a ….parrot!!!”  I wonder what else they will get that isn’t what they wanted?

We will be using props to  support the rhyming aspect and guessing what else rhymes.

You can get a taste of the story by watching  the writer and author reading some of the book on here https://youtu.be/I3Qlixxye94.

We Are Learning… To Move Confidently and Safely on a range of Large Equipment

The children in Willow room have found the LARGE tyre in the garden and are exploring it with their whole bodies—climbing up the ladder and crate steps, and spinning their bodies to slide down into the HUGE hole.

As well as continuing to use their bodies to explore the large equipment inside and outside, they will also be having fun creating large marks using the spinning chair, paint and shaving foam, with their feet and hands!

We are so lucky to have Ellie supporting us with our singing and music sessions and we hope to be able to offer another parents sing-a-long in the classroom very soon.

Thank you to all those who are borrowing books from the lending library.

Please feel free to borrow more books and change them for new ones each week.

World Book Day 2026

Thursday 5th March is World Book Day. We will be celebrating on Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th March to give all the children an opportunity to join in.

If they would like to, the children (and staff) can dress up as their favourite story book character. Who will they be?
We would also like to share everyone’s favourite stories. Please bring in your child’s favourite book for us to read together.

Keeping Healthy

At snack time we will be using our senses to explore taste, textures, flavours and smells and talking about healthy foods.

We will also be thinking about good oral health and the importance of cutting down on sugary food and drinks, and the need for twice daily toothbrushing.
