We Are Learning… To Remember (and Talk About) Significant Events
This term there are lots of events and festivals, including Halloween, Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas.
Linked to Bonfire Night, we will be creating firework pictures using different tools (such as tubes, pipettes and syringes), learning an action song, The Firework Song, and joining in firework dancing using ribbons and scarves. You can see Ellie singing this song and others on our website, Songs, Rhymes and Stories – Little Hayes and Speedwell Nursery Schools.

The Firework Song

We Are Learning… To Use Prepositions Such as ‘On’, ‘In’ and ‘Under’
We will be using Where’s Lenny? and Have You Seen Elephant? to support our learning.
Where will you see Lenny? Under the blanket? In the box? Have you seen Elephant behind the chair?

We Are Learning… To Introduce Pattern Sequence in Body Percussion
We will be singing the “Now We’ve Made a Pattern” song and clapping our hands and knees. This will also support us to learn the names of our body parts.

We Are Learning… Where Our Body Parts Are
We will be using our arms and legs to put our coats and wellie boots on independently. We will be putting our feet IN our boots and our arms IN our coats. Will we need your hood ON your head?

Come and Meet the Owl!
Following on from last term’s A Bit Lost story, we will be learning more about owls, such as their features, food and habitat. We will be learning some vocabulary to describe and talk about them, e.g. feathers, wings, talons, beak, swoop, carnivore and nocturnal.
On Wednesday 11th November, we will be visited at nursery by a real owl. The owl will be around at morning home time (11.30) and afternoon drop-off (12.30), so that you can come and meet it and take photos with your child.

Reading and Book Bags
The children can access books in our reading area throughout the day, and we offer a variety of fiction, non-fiction, familiar and new stories. Please continue to support their reading at home by bringing in their book bags every Wednesday.
If your child doesn’t have a book bag yet, please let their key person know.
Find out more about sharing stories and supporting your child’s reading at www.wordsforlife.org.uk.

Parents Connect
We will be holding our second Parents Connect session of this academic year on Thursday 10th December at 8.30.
Parents/carers who came last time said: “It was nice to talk to other parents”, “Good to hear others’ advice about the same issues I am having” and “It was good to meet the head teacher”.
We will be able to offer you the use of the laptop for school admissions, give you information on toileting and discuss the termly plans for the classroom. Our SENCO, Natalie W, will also be attending to discuss any concerns you have about your child’s development.
Dates for Your Diary
We will be producing a Dates for Your Diary soon, so keep an eye out for what is happening this term.
