Children’s Kitchen Visits Owl Class at Speedwell Nursery School

Jun 25, 2025

Owl Class has been delighted to welcome Kelly from the Children’s Kitchen for a hands-on exploration of healthy eating. Kelly brought an exciting variety of fresh fruits and vegetables for the children to discover through touch, smell, and taste. Under her expert guidance, the children learned essential knife safety skills before carefully chopping their chosen vegetables.

The adventure continued as we seasoned our prepared vegetables with aromatic herbs and spices, then roasted them to golden perfection. The highlight came during our tasting session, where children bravely sampled unfamiliar foods and discovered new favourites while learning about nutritious food choices.

Our learning extended beyond the kitchen as we planted seeds together. The children have shown wonderful responsibility in caring for these tiny plants, eagerly observing their daily growth. Now our seedlings are thriving and ready to find their permanent home in our school vegetable beds, completing our journey from seed to plate.

This experience has beautifully combined practical life skills, scientific observation, and healthy living education in a way that truly engaged every child.
