What Did Flo the Owl Eat? Little Hayes Oak Room Investigates

Dec 5, 2025

When Paul the owl man visited recently, he left us an owl pellet. We opened up the pellet with the children in Oak Room to see what Flo the owl had been eating.

We found lots of tiny bones, skulls, and bits of fur. We have been looking closely at the bones with our magnifying glasses and comparing them to pictures we found online. We were able to identify a mouse and a shrew skull. The children have been comparing the tiny skulls to a sheep’s skull and a human skull, and have been really interested in talking about what they notice and the similarities and differences.

You can find out more about owl pellets, what’s inside, and what owls eat on this site. Have fun learning more about owls together.
