I joined the federation’s governance team because I wanted to support two wonderful nursery schools through some tough times. The local authority-maintained provision of Early Years Education in Bristol is a cause that continually needs fighting for, and our nurseries support some of the most vulnerable families in our city, providing an essential first step in children’s learning and enabling parents and carers to pursue their interests.
I had been a school governor before at my children’s nursery school and primary school and had some professional experience as a clerk and governance advisor – but none of that was necessary as I was able to access training and support, most of which I could undertake online, at home and in my own time.
I continue to learn every time I engage with being a governor. I really enjoy working with other governors, senior staff and getting to visit the nursery schools to witness the great fun and learning firsthand.
