We Are Learning… To use Big Movements with Co-Ordination

This term we are getting active. We will be building and attempting our own obstacle courses, and finding creative ways to move over, under, around and through the obstacles, using balance, agility and spatial awareness. We will be continuing to practise throwing and catching and there will probably be lots of football if the children are watching the FIFA World Cup!

REMEMBER that we go outside every day, so please can you put suncream on your child each morning before nursery.

We Are Learning… To use Tools and Hammers with Precision and Purpose

Along with other fine motor activities, we will be introducing woodwork.

We will learn about different tools, their names and uses, and how to use them safely and effectively. I wonder what we will create?

We Are Learning… To use Descriptive and Positional Language to describe a Journey and Communicate our Ideas

Linked to our core story Rosie’s Walk, we will be acting out and re-telling the story in the garden and starting to map our journey. We will be using positional language to talk about our route and the ways we move over different obstacles. Where will the fox be hiding? Under the bridge? Over the hill? Behind the pond? Why not watch Rosie’s Walk together?

The children will be using the story map (overleaf) to retell the story. We will also be exploring maps, globes and atlases, reading map based books and stories and creating our own maps.

Rosie’s Walk

Once upon a time, Rosie the Hen went for a walk…but she was followed by a fox!
First, the fox followed Rosie across they yard…but he stood on a rake—BANG!
Next, the fox followed Rosie around the pond…but he fell in—SPLASH!
Then, the fox followed Rosie over the haystack…but he got stuck—OUCH!
After that, he followed Rosie past the mill…
but the fox got buried in flour—WHOOSH!
Finally, he followed Rosie under a beehive…
but the fox jumped onto a cart and knocked them down—CRASH!
In the end, the bees chased the fox away—BZZZZZZZ and Rosie the Hen went home for her dinner!
The End
