Purple Day for Rett Syndrome

Nov 3, 2026

On Wednesday 21st October we invited the children and staff to join us in raising awareness of Rett syndrome by wearing something PURPLE. We all had a great time wearing purple and exploring purple resources. We worked together to make a purple collage, mixed red and blue colouring paint to make different shades of purple paint, water and play dough.

Rett syndrome is a rare neurological condition that mainly affects girls but can also affect boys.

Children often develop typically at first, then lose skills such as speech and purposeful hand use. It can also affect movement, breathing and communication, and many children need round-the-clock care. Despite this, they understand far more than they can show, and each one has her own personality, humour and spark.

By wearing purple, you’re helping more people understand Rett and supporting the families and researchers working towards better treatments and a cure.

Thank you for being part of Athena’s community. 💜
