Our Governing Body

What Our Governors Do

Our governors are volunteers from our schools and local communities who give their time to provide strategic direction, set the vision and live the ethos of our federation of Nursery Schools. They hold our senior leaders to account and monitor progress and improvement. They care passionately about the well-being, safety, and happiness of all our children and work to ensure that every child and family can access a high standard of early years education.

We have space for 15 appointed governors with two spaces allocated for parent/carers (ideally one from each school), one member of staff, the Headteacher, and eleven members of the wider community. We are always keen to have more parents and carers involved, and its ok for them to serve in the spaces allocated for members of the wider community. Everyone has the same roles and responsibilities and is valued equally, bringing their own insights and skills to strengthen what we do.

Being a school governor is also an excellent way to make a real difference and an impressive experience to add to your CV. You will be provided with training and support to develop your knowledge of early years education, keeping children safe, creating an inclusive environment as well as nursery school finance and other elements of governance. You will hopefully leave with a host of great skills. You can find out more about the role of a school governor from the National Governance Association’s video below.

We recognise that this is a fast-changing time in any parent/carer’s life and that you might only be a governor whilst your child is attending nursery. This means that we are constantly renewing our membership, so if you would like to join our dynamic team of parents, staff and local volunteers, you are likely to find a space available. Anyone motivated and passionate about helping improve our nursery schools is welcome.

We are currently looking for one new parent/carer governor and several co-opted governors. More information on meetings, responsibilities and commitment are outlined here.
